Finding a Job on UK Job Boards

Copyright (c) 2009 Ianson Internet Marketing

One of the fastest ways to find a good and well paid job is through online Job Boards and Jobsites. For all kinds of work in all sectors of industry you are more likely to find something suitable in London. Whatever position you are searching for through the internet, via telephone enquiry, newspapers, jobcentre plus or by recommendation from a friend or current colleague, you have an equal opportunity to find a suitable position for yourself with the right determination and attitude. Similarly there are many opportunities across the UK in big cities such as Birmingham, Coventry, Cardiff, Southampton, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield, Newcastle, Belfast, Edinburgh and Glasgow. You will find it more difficult however to find opportunities in rural areas or the countryside.

In the UK there are many services offering employment such as high street employment agencies, local and national newspapers, recruitment companies, jobcentreplus, e-work services but the greatest method is by online recruitment agencies. There are many big players but also many smaller niche market companies who specialise in all industries and sectors of business. The majority offer free registration for candidates. Just upload your CV/Resume and complete the tick boxes on what you are looking for, what region of the country, what package and salary you hope to get and what sectors of industry. The more flexible you are the more chance you have of finding something suitable. If you are a sales professional then you could go into any industry with the right training and product knowledge. Many offer a job by e-mail service where they will match your requirements on a regular basis and send you the information. It is then up to you which positions you choose to apply for.

There are many specialists Job sites which can be found through search engines Google, Yahoo and MSN that may be more suitable if you want to focus on a particular role such as sales. Don’t necessarily go for the big players but the smaller websites often offer a more personal service. Remember that they are only the advertiser though and will not deal with particular vacancies, you will need to contact the companies direct for more information about specific jobs.

Many Jobsites have in excess of 20,000 vacancies on offer so where else can you find such volumes of opportunity. The most important thing is planning and preparation. Ensure you CV/Resume is up to date and written professionally. In the current climate there will be many candidates for every role so try and stand out. List your achievements and work history but within reason. If you have had many jobs for short periods of time then do not list them all. Stick to the facts and do not make up anything. You may well get caught out.

Flyers: Its Colorful and Almost Musical History

A variety of changes and trends have helped shaped the flyer as we know. Among these, are the pulls of the market, the emergence of consumer goods and of course, popular culture.

In popular culture, flyers played a huge role in the promotion of various bands or DJs. These small printouts were handed out or glued to strategic locations in public places such as subways, bus stations and busy streets.

Then, these flyers usually indicate the time and place of an event – be it a gig, a performance in a dance club or a concert. These flyers can also serve as teasers to plant seeds of curiosity and coax people to come and take part in the event.

One good example could be seen in the music video “Where is the Love?” by the Black Eyed Peas. Their flyers were handed out, pasted on walls, and put in the most prominent places. At the same time, these flyers were intriguing, attention-grabbing and aesthetically pleasing.

HISTORY BITS

However, long before flyers became a highly recognizable medium, it was its more popular predecessor who made it all possible..

The poster is the flyer’s early ancestor. Both were aimed for promotional use as visual materials. It can be said that a flyer is a poster that had shrunk in size. It was in the 60’s that the flyer actually came to be. Smaller pieces of paper were used for low budget mass advertising. Flyers became increasingly popular as it made use of contemporary designs.

Some of the designs were influenced by various changes, including but not limited to socio-political upheavals and trends that were fashionable at the time. Psychedelic prints were used to promote bands such as The Rolling Stones, The Doors and Pink Floyd.

In the United Kingdom, black and white flyers took hold of the music scene where punk and underground culture were the rage. These, in turn, promoted bands like The Sex Pistols and The Buzzcocks.

It was the 80s that gave shape to the modern flyer. Getting inspiration from the rave scene and flyers employed hedonistic and surreal imagery. It also used a great deal of colors and introduced something seemingly spiritual in its entirety.

MODERN

Contemporary flyers now make use of a fusion of traditional and modern art. Some flyers are even displayed in the different galleries and exhibits worldwide. These purely promotional and advertising materials are now also classified as modern, experimental or postmodern art.

Although flyers are promotional materials, its affinity to the music culture is hard to ignore. The Xerox art of Raymond Pettibon, Randy “Biscuit” Turner and Shawn Kerri are monumental to punk culture. What started out as punk flyers now became part of counter culture art.

Punk flyers are monochromatic to reflect the tradition of the handmade, do it yourself and self-taught punk culture. The colors black and white are also used to show resistance to the mainstream and serve as a reminder of a subculture that exists not far from the conventional. Although Randy Turner’s work uses a lot of colors, they remain a part of punk culture for what they communicate to the viewer. They still reflect going against the grain and the assertion of a culture other than the mainstream.

Flyers nowadays makes use of a variety of resources for inspiration. Many movements in art and trends in marketing have been adapted and employed in flyer printing. Sometimes, the rule with flyers are that there are no rules.

Everyday, you can explore and experiment with your own flyers. They say everything has been done. But they also say, “You’ll never know until you try”

How to write a cover letter for volunteer job as a graphic designer?

Am a graphic designer and have moved to USA few months back and have been looking for a job. But unfortunately could not find one in my desired field. Though, i have a job now, i still wanna make my career in Advertising Design. So, my friends here suggested me to gain experience through volunteer jobs in my field. Now, I need help for writing a cover letter for approaching advertising agencies and printing firms. Please help urgently.

Thanks
DJ

Your cover letter should highlight your creative strengths relative to the particular job that you are applying for.
It should also be flexible enough for you to change or highlight different areas of experience, as you apply to different jobs or companies.

A professionally written is very inexpensive usually between $15-$35.

They are well worth it, as they are the often first and sometimes only thing the manager reads. A bad cover letter and they may never get to your excellent resume

Purity Rings becoming popular….Fad or The Real Deal?

I’ve got a little bro, I don’t approve of him having sex as teen, but I trust him to follow his heart & make his own decisions. Mistakes or not. Since these rings are popping up more in the media & the youth I wonder how many of you guys think this sudden spur is legit? I applaud anyone waiting for marriage. But I don’t want him to get sucked into the whole fad of “waiting” & wearing something w/o regards for it’s true meaning. How do I explain to him as someone who DID have sex but I respect the idea of waiting. I think he should wait for HIMSELF, more than for anyone else. I also think he shouldn’t advertise his sexual dilly-dallyings, that should be private, right?

P.S if it’s for religion, can’t going to church, praying or your love for God be enough? I though crosses where the “symbol” of a pure wholesome love for being the person you should be?

Fad.
Way back when I was a teen, girls wore “virgin” pins whether they were or not.

Bulletin Board Advertising Business?

I want to start a business where i have a number, say 15 for example, placed around the city. These are cork board bulletin boards that have some sort of lexan or glass covering to keep people from messing with the board. Business could then pay a low monthly fee to advertise on all of the boards. I was thinking $50 for a full page ad and $30 for a half page ad (to make people lean toward the full page ad). This cost is per month and is for 1 ad on all 15 of the boards. the boards would be placed in gas stations, restaurants, store lobbies etc. to start, i would just put the boards up with one of my flyers on the boards. people could then call and line up space. is this a good idea?

Doubtful…most grocery stores already have free bulletin boards that would compete with you. Plus, you can’t guarantee eyeballs (i.e., for $50 an advertiser gets 1,000 eyeballs) which is how advertisers spend their dollars (that’s why TV networks want high rated shows – more eyeballs watching, the more they can charge). Then there is upkeep, vandalism, etc.

What is the best way to advertise products to daycares/schools?

Hello I am a Multicultural Toy Consultant and I am part of a small business that allows me to branch out and have my own home business. I would like to advertise my products to daycares/schools (as my mom works in a daycare and said that some of my books/toys would be useful if purchased). She and I figured the best way to get in touch with the daycares and schools would be to send them a letter about the company, a sample of the product as well as a catalogue or flyer showing what else I have to offer.

At my own workplace I have seen flyers come through our fax machine as well as mail come in advertising programs and products. I am just drawing a blank on how to start my letter, what to include and how to go about it.

Any suggestions?

You have to answer the age-old question: What is it for them?

You stand a bigger chance of getting schools to buy from you if you give them a percentage of the sale of the items — especially if you want to target private schools such as Montessori. Then and only then can you be given the opportunity to announce your products.

In most cases, they will even do the announcement for you — in their weekly newsletter to the parents, a brochure or leaflet to be put in the backpack of each students, etc.

Otherwise, it’s the connection thing: who do you know that can introduce you to the decision maker

Writing A Cover Letter That Has Everything You Need To Rise Above The Rest

Your cover letter should not just be seen as an introduction to your resume. You mustn’t rely too much on the content of your resume to get you the job you need. Sure you have all the qualifications that the job requires, but so does tens or maybe hundreds of others.

What you need is a good cover letter that attracts the attention of the reader right away and guides his or her attention properly to your resume. Before even having the chance to read your resume, your cover letter should already create a mindset. The reader or the hiring manager should already be thinking about you as a good candidate.

But basically a cover letter should accomplish a lot of things, here are some of them:

• Your cover letter should explain the reason why you are sending them your resume. It should specify the position that you are applying for. Sending a resume without a cover letter is a big no-no. Your cover letter will specify what it is that you indeed want, what you look forward to and what your intentions are. And also, it will show why you are the best person for the position.

• Your cover letter should be able to communicate well with the reader. It should be well organized, well written and error free. This will show that you are a professional and you have the goods that they need and want.

• Your cover letter should inform them where you learned about the vacant position or where you have learned about them. If someone recommended the job to you, then it is appropriate that you mention the name. Companies spend money on marketing and advertising, they want to know which reached you.

• Your cover letter should entice its reader to move on to your resume after reading your cover letter. Since your cover letter will come first, it will shape the impression of the reader about you. If you seem interesting and you have what they need, they would be more serious in looking and reading at your resume.

• Your cover letter should showcase your personality. It should show what kind of a person you are. Of course you will want to put your best foot forward. So tell them about your strengths and your weaknesses, and how they will be able to help the company.

• Your cover letter should highlight your abilities and skills. This will give the reader the chance to weigh you. If you indeed is the right person that the position needs. Be specific, showcase your background that fits the bill of the position.

• Most importantly, your cover letter should indicate how serious you are about the job. It should show that you want the job and you are willing to take it.

Making a cover letter that connotes professionalism and the ability to do what is needed is your edge among the others. You may all be qualified but writing a cover letter that will make you shine will make you rise above the rest.

Take the time to write and rewrite your cover letter until perfection. Evaluate yourself and see what needs to be included. Remember to keep your cover letter short and specific, your resume should just be able to explain the rest.
